Plan an upgrade of a Cisco 8000, ASR 9000, NCS 540 or NCS 5500/5700 router from your current IOS XR release to a target. For the 8000 the tool applies Cisco's published upgrade caveats: bridge SMUs, the 25.2.1 disk-encryption boundary and the releases Cisco documents as upgrade sources. For the ASR 9000 it applies Cisco's bridge-SMU table for upgrades into 24.1.1 and later. Cisco publishes no such table for the NCS platforms, so there the tool applies the platform rules from Cisco's guides and field notices. Where Cisco publishes no table, you get the on-device commands that decide the path. Every release is checked against Cisco's end-of-life notices, and pasting your show install active summary lists the SMUs you run today, which do not carry over to a new release.
Planning aid only. Always validate your path with Cisco TAC and the release notes for each step, and run show install upgrade-matrix on the router. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
2 Your releases
SMUs and bug-fix RPMs are built for one release. Paste the output to see which ones you would need to replace. It also fills in your current release.
Upgrade rules come from the Cisco 8000 Series Setup and Upgrade Guide (including its release-specific caveats tables), the ASR 9000, NCS 540 and NCS 5500 System Setup and Software Installation Guides, and Cisco field notices FN74264, FN74335, FN74387, FN74400, FN74402 and FN74419. The recommended release comes from Cisco's Recommended Releases for IOS XR Routers page, and lifecycle dates from Cisco's IOS XR end-of-sale and end-of-life notices. Cisco's lists of recommended SMUs need a Cisco login, so they are not reproduced here. This tool is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cisco Systems.
